Accelerated Resolution Therapy

The constant barrage of stressors can leave us feeling overwhelmed and disconnected from our true selves. Many turn to quick fixes, hoping to alleviate the symptoms of stress, anxiety, and chronic worry.

However, true peace and healing come from understanding and addressing the root causes of our distress.

As a Root Cause Health Coach, I believe that lasting peace is not just a fleeting state but a journey that involves peeling back the layers of our experiences to uncover and heal the underlying issues. By focusing on the root causes rather than just the symptoms, we can pave the way for profound, lasting transformation in our mental and emotional well-being.

From Constant Worry to Lasting Peace

I’d like to introduce Patricia Callahan, LCSW and founder of Heart Solutions Counseling, PLLC. If you’ve been searching for a faster, more effective way to heal, Patricia Callahan specializes in the "intersection of science and soul." She helps individuals facing cancer and serious illness rewire their nervous systems for lasting calm.

Through Accelerated Resolution Therapy® (ART), Patricia offers an evidence-based alternative to traditional talk therapy, providing rapid relief where standard methods often leave people feeling stuck.

This approach aligns beautifully with the principles of Root Cause Coaching, where we seek to understand and heal the underlying issues affecting well-being, rather than just addressing surface symptoms.

How ART Works

ART harnesses the brain’s natural processing power—much like the way we dream. During a session, clients use guided eye movements to physically change how the brain stores distressing memories. Instead of remaining stuck in painful imagery, clients are empowered to "recode" their experiences, effectively creating a "better ending" to a memory. This process resonates with Root Cause Coaching, which focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of distress to foster true healing and balance.

The Power of Play and Metaphor

Unlike heavy, clinical approaches, ART can actually be creative and even fun. Because the brain responds powerfully to symbolism, Patricia uses metaphors to bypass anxiety. A client overwhelmed by "what ifs" might visualize catching them in a butterfly net; someone who has lost their confidence might "find" it tucked away in a closet. These symbolic exercises foster a sense of control and resilience, making the healing process feel empowering rather than exhausting. Root Cause Coaching also emphasizes creativity and empowerment, helping clients to discover personalized strategies for overcoming challenges.

Science-Backed Relief

Developed in 2008 by Laney Rosensweig, ART first gained recognition at the University of South Florida. Early studies with veterans showed a staggering 70% reduction in PTSD symptoms, while depression rates plummeted from 87% to 28%. These results firmly established ART as an evidence-based treatment.

Today, this success is being applied to the unique challenges of serious illness. The Mayo Clinic, supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), has conducted research confirming ART as a powerful tool for reducing cancer-related distress. Further ongoing studies are exploring how ART builds resilience in caregivers to prevent burnout and PTSD. This evidence-based approach mirrors the effectiveness of Root Cause Coaching, which utilizes scientific understanding to support comprehensive wellness.

From Desensitization to "Positization"

While many therapies focus on desensitization (reducing the pain of a memory), ART goes a step further through "positization." Clients replace negative imagery with positive alternatives of their own design. By the end of treatment, the brain doesn’t just quiet old triggers—it strengthens the capacity for future joy. For those living with trauma or grief, ART offers a fast, permanent path back to tranquility and strength.
